Mumbai (Matunga), 13-November-2016: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) celebrated Children's Day with 310 children of the women from the self-help groups; from the slum communities of the city of Mumbai. It was a whole day event with the theme of “Celebrating Childhood”. Apart from all the fun, attractive prizes and sumptuous meals; the children were also drilled into Child rights.
Celebrations began with a prayer lead by a child. This was followed by a heart touching interactive speech by Fr. Crispino D’Souza (Rector & Principal of St. Dominic Savio, Andheri) who was the Chief Guest for the Programme. Through his own testimony he urged the children to enjoy their childhood and not to take any type of stress or tension. He also requested children to value their life and never get depressed and commit suicide.
Mr. Jayesh Chandan and Mr. Kailash Parekh (president and treasurer respectively of Don Bosco Alumini, Matunga Unit) were the Guest of Honour for the programme. In his motivating address, Mr. Jayesh expressed his heart felt gratitude to the Don Bosco School and encouraged children to dream big and move ahead in life. On behalf of the children, DBDS presented a commemorative memento to Don Bosco Alumini, Matunga Unit as a mark of appreciation and respect.
The Staff of CHILDLINE NGO interacted with students and conducted a session on Child rights. It was a fun-filled day for children. Various children’s group sang songs, danced and enacted onstage to make the Children’s Day - a memorable day. The programme ended with ceremonial vote of thanks by DBDS staff. Children went back home with lot of memories which they will cherish throughout their life and of-course with some attractive prizes. The meals and snacks were sponsored by Don Bosco Alumini, Matunga Unit.
