Fr. Rolvin D’Mello (Executive Director, DBDS) received the honorable first lady and the other esteemed delegation and escorted the esteemed delegation to provincial house. They were greeted with Su-Swagatam (welcome) dance, on the way, the ladies of SHGs from the slums showered flower petals on the guests.
At the provincial house, the ladies dressed in traditional attire welcomed the guests with Aarti-tilak (as a mark of veneration) and offered flower garland as a mark of respect and honour. This was followed by a small dance performance by the students of Don Bosco. In his opening address Fr. Godfrey D’Souza (Provincial, Don Bosco) welcomed the delegates and thanked them for their visit to Don Bosco. Fr Rolvin in his speech emphasized the on the partnership between Don Bosco and the German Federal Government that is stretching over two decades. Which included several social development projects supported in the past and present resulting in sustainable change in the lives of people.
This was followed by meeting the Salesians of provincial house and presenting a souvenir on the occasion. Fr. Rolvin then made a small presentation on the works of DBDS which was followed by experience sharing by the SHG leaders working on Right to Food, Water and Sanitation. Honorable first lady, Mrs Kretschmann then interacted with the children and women in the audience.
The delegation then proceeded to visit the works of DBDS in Dharavi. In the slum, the first lady, Mrs Kretschmann and her team interacted with the women entrepreneurs and SHG members and experienced the process of empowerment initiated by DBDS. The women interacted with lot of enthusiasm with the first land and shared with her their daily struggle and aspirations for better future.
The visit came as an acknowledgement of the significant contribution by Don Bosco in the social field – which Mrs. Kretschmann herself admitted at the end of the visit.
