Pune, 24-May-2017:
The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), Pune organized a free health camp under the ‘Women Empowerment Project’ supported by Manos Unidas (Spain) for the people of Tadiwala Road slum in Pune. 165 patients (all from the slums) were examined by a team of doctors and para-medic staff from Aundh hospital.

Dr. Suraj Gaikwad (Physician), Dr. Deshpande (Paediatricians), Dr. Sneha Ansari (Ophthalmologist) and Dr. Nilofer (Gynecologist‎), Dr.Munde (Medical officer) along with number of other staff examined the patients in this health camp.

Ms Rita Jadhav (staff - DBDS) expressed her opinion that “along with holding free health camp we are also trying to change the health care seeking behaviour of women through education also.” Sharing his experience Dr. Munde said that “no major illnesses were found but there are cases of anaemia, cough, cold, worms in children, joints pain, low BP etc.”

Free medicines were distributed and people with serious illness were referred to Aundh Hospital. Ms Ranjana Pandit (Co-ordinator - DBDS) of the project expressed her satisfaction saying that “this was our first health camp in this slum and we got good response and co-operation from people.”
