078 - Five Days Training on Home Based Spices for SHG Women

Pune, May 2017:
The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), Pune organized 5 days training workshop on ‘Home Based Spice Business’ from 18th May to 23rd May 2017 for the women Self-Help-Group (SHG) members from the slums of Pune. This training programme was held under the aegis of ‘women empowerment project’ supported by Manos Unidas, Spain.

The objective of this training was to impart skill and knowledge on spice making as micro business for supplementary income. 20 women from the slums successfully completed the entire training. The training was imparted by ‘Kasturba Mahila Khadi Gramodyog Vidyalaya’ which is a government recognised training institution.

Participants of the training were selected after studying their needs and aptitude for setting up business. 15 different kinds of spice making were taught including Sabji masala, Sambar masala, Chana masala, Garam masala, Chicken masala, Meat masala, Sunday masala etc. It also included sessions on marketing, coasting, budgeting, pricing and brand building.

Speaking on the occasion Mr Nagsen Chauhan (Training Coordinator - DBDS) said “Our endeavour is to help women learn skills and setup small business so that they are economically empowered and we are also monitoring their progress.” Mrs Ranjana Torene (Co-ordinator - DBDS) added that “Our effort is to encourage poor women in slums to learn skills and start enterprises and for that our team holds regular meeting in the slums.”
