Pune, June 2016: The Don Bosco Development Society, Pune organized as legal awareness workshop for women residing in the slum of Madari Vasti. 27 women from SHGs participated in this workshop. The workshop was a part of ‘women empowerment project’ supported by Manos Unidas, Spain.
Adv. Mrs. Anupama Joshi was the resource person. In her lecture she explained women’s Property rights, provisions of Domestic violence act 2005, definition of Legal Marriage, provisions of Hindu Marriage Act, importance of Marriage certificate etc. She explained the influence of patriarchal system prevailing in society which creates gender inequality in society. She explained the sec 498A of IPC which gives protection to women against various forms of cruelties. The then explained the provisions of property rights under personal laws of Hindus and Muslims respectively.
Women actively participated and also discussed their problems. Participants liked the training session and they informed that they need more such type training sessions.
