095 - Community Awareness on Child Abuse

Pune, July 2017:
The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), Pune organized a community awareness session on child abuse at Saint Gadgebaba Maharaj slum in Koregaon Park (Pune) for the women from the slum. The main objective of this program was to create awareness on growing child abuse in cities – especially girl child. The event was held under the aegis of ‘Women Empowerment Project’ supported by Manos Unidas, Spain.

Mrs Archana and Mrs Devika were the resource persons from an NGO called Alochana Sanstha. The session dealt with the vulnerability of children to sexual harassment, types of sexual harassment, crime, etc. The resource people gave further insights on how women can protect their children from these kind of abuses.

A short film on a minor girl’s harassment was also screened. They also explained about the child helpline no.1098 for the immediate help and services available on this helpline number. There were number of queries raised by the women and important discussion was carried out. All the participants went back enriched and resolved to protect the children from abuse and trafficking.
