096 - An Opportunity to Earn an Extra Income for the Slum Women

Chinchwad (Pune) July 2017:
The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), Chinchwad organized an intense 5 days training workshop on ‘Phenyl, washing powder and liquid soap making Business’ from 4th to 8th July 2017 for the women Self-help Group members from the slums in Chinchwad. This training programme was held under the aegis of ‘Women Empowerment Project’ supported by AXA Business Services Pvt Ltd. 20 women successfully completed the entire training module.

The main objective of this event was that the women from the slums learn some skills and use them for earning an extra income for their household. Mrs. Lalita Mahajan (Jr. Technical staff), Mrs. Ramni Pillay (Sr. Technical staff) from Kasturba Mahila Khadi Gramodyog Vidyalaya, Pune and Mr. Tirandaj (Sub-Marketing Management), Bank Of Maharashtra were the resource person for the training.

Over a period of full 5 days, the women were taught different types of products: White & Black Phenyl, Dish Liquid, Washing /detergent powder, Hand wash and Toilet Cleaner. The resource persons also taught how small investment in this business can help them in earning income as it is a fast moving product. The training programme was well appreciated by the participants and many of them promised to try this business with little capital.
