Mumbai, July 2017: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), Mumbai organised an awareness training programme on “Right to Food Security” at Panchsheel Nagar, Wadala (east). More than 50 women who are leaders in their area participated in this programme. Ms. Surekha Pednekar (Programme Coordinator - DBDS) was the resource person; she disbursed information on the Food Security Act and encouraged all the women to stand-up for their rights.
The main objective of this programme was to create awareness on Food Security Act – as many people in the slums are not aware of it and thus do not get their entitlements. The second part of the workshop was addressing the queries that came from the participants and how practically this act can be implemented in their own vicinity.
A workshop of this kind was held for the first time at Wadala and all the participants benefited from the same. A vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs. Ranjana Gangurde (Field Staff - DBDS). The women went back enthused by the knowledge imparted in this session; with a commitment that they themselves will be the activist to implement this act in their respective area.
