1026 AXA Project: Anti- Tobacco Awareness Session for school students

Chinchwad (Pune), 26-Feb-2020: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), Chinchwad organized awareness and interactive session on Harmful Effects of Tobacco and Gutkha chewing for the students of Swami Vivekanand High School in Chinchwad. 275 students participated in this session held under the aegis of ‘Health Risk Reduction’ project supported by AXA Business Services.

Mrs. Vibhawari Kamble (Staff- DBDS) welcomed the participants and resource person. Dr. Narayan Jaibhay was the resource person for this session. The objective of this session was to educate students on the risky habit of consuming tobacco products and harmful effects to such habits. In the first session, Dr. Jaibhay spoke about the mobile phone addiction among young children and its harmful effect on human body and mind. After that he covered topic on types of diabetes, role of insulin, symptoms and physical exercises to control diabetes.

During the next session, Dr. Jaibhay covered various topics on composition of tobacco, substance abuse in adolescent, adolescent health problems in India, effect on liver, kidney, and forms of tobacco, oral cancer, lung cancer and many more health problems associated with it. Students asked many questions which were all answered by the resource person. Mrs. Vibhawari Kamble (Staff- DBDS) made the logistical arrangement and coordinated for this session with the school. The program ended with the vote of thanks by Mr Kamble (school teacher).
