103 - DBDS and Underprivileged Women to Walk the Extra Mile

Mumbai, 27 July 2017:
Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) Mumbai, organised an awareness workshop on July 27, 2017 for the slum-women of Mumbai City to enable them obtain their various rights and entitlements from the government. 130 women leaders from the slums across Mumbai participated in this workshop. Pradeep Moon, Regional Director – Central Government Board was the main resource person.

Father Rolvin D’Mello, Executive director – DBDS welcomed the gathering and Matteo, of the Auxilium India Organisation in Italy. In his opening address, Father D’Mello insisted, “women must stand-up and demand their rights and entitlements from the government, because those benefits legitimately belong to them,” further adding “DBDS will walk that extra mile to assist the women in obtaining these schemes and benefits from the government.”

Resource person Pradeed Moon explained the various schemes of the Central as well as the State Government related to women and children, work, entrepreneur loans, etc. He not only disbursed informed about and clarified the procedural details through his presentation, but also enthused the spirit of the marginalized women.

Surekha Pednekar, Coordinator – DBDS thanked the resource person for his lucid presentation and the participants for their enthusiastic participation. The workshop ended with an open-house question and answer session followed by snacks and refreshment for all. The participants dispersed home enriched and enlightened, with the assurance that DBDS will walk with them all the way.
