Matunga (Mumbai), November 2020: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), Mumbai organized an interactive session on the topic of ‘savings and investments’ for the SHG women from various slum pockets in Mumbai. 204 women from low income group participated in this session held under the aegis of ‘Project Disha under MGL Saksham’ supported by Mahanagar Gas Limited.
Mr. Dinesh Dedhia and Mr Salve from Mahim Post Office were the resource persons and they covered following topics:
1) Thumb rules on savings and investment
2) Investing in small saving schemes to meet financial goals
3) Life insurance, risk cover, health insurance and investment in insurance products
The session started with understanding the current savings and investment instruments of the participants. Next session was on small saving schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Public Provident Fund, India Post Payments Bank (Ippb), Sukanya Samruddhi Yojana, Atal Pension Yojna, NPS etc run by post offices and how saving in these schemes can create wealth for them. The workshops resulted in opening saving accounts and subscription to small saving schemes by 112 women.
