1199 Launch of MGL Disha Project and Teacher’s Training Workshop

Mumbai, December 2020: MGL Disha Project was formally launched (though project is running since March 2020) by Mr Nishant Kumar Sinha (Manager CSR - MGL), Miss Shamika Ranade and all the project staff in a small ceremony held on 16-December at DBDS. Welcoming the dignitaries from MGL and the project staff; Fr Rolvin D’Mello (Executive Director - DBDS) expressed his heartfelt gratitude and gratefulness towards MGL management and staff for financially supporting this project which focuses on improving the lives of people in slums of Mumbai.

The day began with a teacher’s training and capacity building workshop, conducted for all the project staff of ‘MGL Disha Project’ in Mumbai. More than 500 children attend remedial classes in the slums of Mumbai every day. The workshop was conducted with the objective to impart learning and classroom management skills to part time teachers of remedial classes. Miss Bindu Chaddha, the resource person for this session dealt with:

1) Communication skills in teaching

2) Inculcating value and respect in teaching process

3) Setting future goals for children

Post lunch – Sir Nishant Sinha addressed the entire gathering. He also emphasised that staff shouldn’t just merely work on a given project or a task but become agents of change in the society through the various tasks assigned to them.

Miss Shamika Ranade (remedial class coordinator) took a session in the afternoon; emphasising on:

1) Soft skills while teaching – especially tones and phonetics

2) Hygiene of kids

3) Various aids for teaching

The day ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Fr Rolvin.
