1208 Medical Care Project for Underprivileged Kids in Vadodara

Vadodara (Gujarat), December 2020: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) in association with Don Bosco Snehalaya is currently implementing ‘education and medical care project’ in Vadodara City. The aim of this project is to provide educational and medical support to street girls and boys below 18 years of age living in the slums and at Don Bosco Snehalaya. Fr. George Miranda (Project Director) along with Miss Jagruti Patil (Project Coordinator) are supervising the operations of this project. This project is financially supported by Mix for Kids, e.v. (Germany).


Medical Camps:
A Medical camp was held on 19th December 2020 at Chaturai Nagar. Dr Yogesh Agrawal and his team of two para-medical staff examined 31 girls and 26 boys. Free medicines were distributed to children. Most illness cases related to fungal infection, common cold, calcium deficiency, skin infection and anaemia. Vitamin tablets were given to kids.


Health Awareness Session for Adolescent Girls:
Two health awareness sessions were conducted for adolescent girls on 3rd & 10th December 2020 in Chaturai Nagar for 37 girls. Mrs. Jagruti Patil (Coordinator) was the resource person for these sessions. The objective of the workshop was to educate adolescent girls on their health, hygiene, reproductive health and COVID-19 pandemic and precautions. She covered following topics in these sessions:

• Physical and Psychological changes.
• Menstruation details and cleanliness
• Information about sanitary pads.
• For stomach and back pains they should consult a doctor.
• Reproductive health risks
• Difference between COVID-19, common cold, FLU, Allergies.
• Preventive measures
• Government guidelines
• Stigma prevention and positive attitude


These sessions were conducted privately with a batch of only three-four girls at time.
