1212 Urban Education Project: For Under-Privileged Kids in Vadodara

Vadodara (Gujarat), December 2020: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) organized a capacity building training for the teachers working in ‘Urban Slum Education Project’ aimed at assisting marginalized and deprived children from slums of Vadodara financed by Kindermissionswerk (Aachen, Germany).

Miss Jagruti Patil (DBDS - Coordinator) was the resource person. She covered following topics in her session:

  • Child Psychology, Child Personality
  • Lesson Plans
  • Classroom environment
  • Teaching methodology (audio-visual)
  • Importance of parents meeting and feedback
  • Importance of sports, cultural events, festivals etc

Teachers were also informed about the guidelines to be followed from the health department and Education department with respect to the prevailing COVID-19 situation in Vadodara.


Parent-Teacher Meeting

Parent-Teacher meetings were held in small batches from 2nd to 30th November 2020. A total number of 426 parents were present in these meetings. During the meeting the Coordinator thanked the parents for their dedication, motivation and commitment to continue education of their children when they are facing many hardships due to COVID-19 pandemic. During the meeting, parents were educated on the guidelines given by education department, mandatory presence of parents with children during online classes, syllabus and evaluation of students.



Online Christmas Celebration with Kids

Online Christmas celebration was held with children from various slums of Vadodara. The COVID-19 couldn’t dampen the spirit of children and they decided to celebrate Christmas online using internet tools. Children wore Santa Claus Cap and drew sketches related to the theme of Christmas. Children sang Christmas Carols and parents also participated in this event.
