26-August-2017, Matunga (Mumbai): T
he Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) organized a small summit for the NGOs working in the same location as DBDS – in 26 slum pockets of Mumbai city. The main objective of this summit was to achieve better collaboration among the various NGOs instead of competition. Heads and representatives from 11 NGOs were present for the same.

Fr Rolvin D’Mello (Executive Director – DBDS) in his welcome address challenged all the participants to make development work priceless. Fr D’Mello mentioned that over the years development work is become yet another business; wherein the fundamental aspect of service is forgotten and hence he emphasized the need to put-back the element of service in development work and thus make it priceless.

Miss Varsha (Executive Secretary – Nasha Bandhi Mandal, Maharashtra Government) and Mr Anis Sheikh (President of Anna Haq Parishad) were the other dignitaries present – they too re-emphasized the idea of collaboration for greater good.

All the NGOs who attended this summit are working at grass root level in various areas like: Food Security, Water, Sanitation, Women Empowerment, Education of the under-privileged, etc. and hence it was a wonderful occasion for all to share what each organization is doing and finding new paths for networking. As a practical deliberation, it was decided that the organizations will share resource and expertise in conducting different workshops.

Ms Surekha Pednekar (Coordinator – DBDS) proposed the vote of thanks. All the participants went back enthused and enriched from the summit.
