Mumbai, March-2021:
The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) during the past three months successfully trained 100 women from the different slums of Mumbai in advance skills of tailoring and beautician. In an exciting ceremony these students received their certificates; additionally 40 best students received a tailoring machine each and beauty-parlour kits. The ceremony was held in the ‘Bianchi Hall’ at Matunga, with less than 50% attendance of its full capacity due to the COVID-19 restrictions. This entire venture was financially supported by Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL).

Fr Rolvin D’Mello (Executive Director-DBDS) welcomed the guests and beneficiaries. He then expressed his sincere gratefulness towards MGL for their wholehearted support to the project. He applauded the decision of beneficiaries for utilizing their time productively in learning skills of beauty care and tailoring rather than sitting idle at home.

Fr Ashley Miranda (Vice Provincial of the Salesian Province of Mumbai) was the chief guest and Mrs Shamika Ranade (Coordinator of the remedial classes) along with Fr Vinod Mascarenhas (Provincial Secretary) were the guest of honour.

The program began with the traditional welcome of the chief guest and other guests of honour by the beneficiaries of the project. The exhibition of various items was put up by the beneficiaries. The exhibition items included products made by the project beneficiaries such as bags, garments etc. The event was formally inaugurated by lighting of the lamp by chief guest and other guests of honour by garlanding the portrait of Don Bosco.

Fr Ashley congratulated the beneficiaries for successfully completing the course and empowering themselves with skills. Miss Shamika and Fr Vinod too extended their words of appreciation towards all the students for successfully completing this 3-months advance skills training.

Top 40 students of ‘Advance Skills Courses’ who were selected on the basis of their performance, family’s economic condition, employment status, disability etc were presented ‘Beautician Kit’ and ‘Sewing machines with Stand, Motor and Peddle’. After the presentation ceremony Fr Rolvin thanked everyone for taking out time and gracing the event with their presence. The program ended with sumptuous snacks served for all.
