1311 MGL Disha Project: Remedial Classes for 565 Under-Privileged Students

Mumbai, May-June 2021: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), Mumbai is conducting 20 remedial classes for 565 children from the slums of Mumbai under the aegis of MGL Disha Project supported by Mahanagar Gas Limited.

Due to surge in COVID cases in the slums of Mumbai some students have gone back to their native places. 48 online sessions were held for 394 students and 27 offline sessions were conducted for 99 students. 72 students have gone to their native place and do not have mobile phone to attend the classes.

In order to enhance the quality of education imparted to these students; DBDS organized a training workshop for the remedial class teachers. 20 teachers and 7 project staff participated in this training. Fr. Rolvin D’Mello (Executive Director- DBDS) welcomed Ms Bindu Chaddha who was the resource person for the workshop.

In his opening address Fr Rolvin gave an overview of the project and the importance of the activities related to education of children in slums. He thanked MGL for supporting this project. The session was held online through video conferencing. In her session, Ms. Bindu covered following topics:

  • Teaching using online platform
  • Teaching learning process and online aids
  • Involvement of parent’s in child development
