Ahmednagar (Maharashtra), July 2021:
The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) through its implementing partner Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra (BGVK) is presently constructing a new Check-Dam in the Dhotre village, located in Parner block of Ahmednagar district. This project is financially supported by Association of Auxilium India (Seregno – Italy).

Fr Rolvin D’Mello (Executive Director – DBDS) performed the ground breaking ceremony in the presence of Fr George D’Abreo (Director - BGVK) and other farmers and villagers. Speaking on the occasion Fr Rolvin emphasized on the need to find sustainable solution to the recurring drought that occurs every year in the region. He shared that low cost technologies such as Check dam, afforestation, gully plugging, bunding, etc need to be taken on large scale to increase the ground water table, surface water and recharge the nearby wells.

Fr George mentioned that this project will not solve the drinking water issues but will also make water available for agriculture and cattle too. The construction of check dam is related to a bigger project on climate change which is currently being implemented in Ahmednagar, Beed, Aurangabad, Jalna and Parbhani with focuses on: conservation and management of water resources, organic farming and linkages to government entitlements.
