170 LEGAL EDUCATION WORKSHOP FOR SLUM WOMEN

Pune, 18-November-2017: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), Pune organized a ‘Legal Awareness’ workshop for the women residing in the slums of Jai Jawan Nagar, Yerwada. 26 women participated in this workshop. This workshop was part of ‘Women Empowerment Project’ supported by Manos Unidas, Spain. The objective of the workshop was to educate women on their rights and entitlements.

Advocate Mrs. Anupama Joshi (a practicing lawyer on women issues) was the resource person for this workshop. In general, she explained laws related to women’s Property rights, Marriage and personal laws, divorce and their provision under law, maintenance, domestic violence, inheritance law, Hindu Marriage Act and new amendments, etc. She Discussed Kopardi rape case and the intricacies of this matter from the Criminal angle and investigation. The session was followed by question-answer session in which the women raised many of their domestic and family related matter and sought legal remedy from the resource person. Mrs.Ranjana Pandit (DBDS - Project Coordinator) was the main organizer for this event along with her team from DBDS, Pune.
