Pune (Chinchwad), 1-Dec-2017: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), organized a two ‘Legal Awareness’ workshop for the women residing in the slums of Pune on 25th November and 29th November respectively. These workshop were part of ‘Women Empowerment Project’ supported by AXA Business Service, Pune. The objective of these workshops was to make women aware about their rights and entitlements in which 44 women participated.

Advocate Pretti Sathe and Advocate Madhavi were the resource person for these workshops. Following acts were covered in the workshop:
  • Protection of Women’s from Domestic Violence Act – 2005 
  • Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act – 1956 
  • Dowry Prohibition Act – 1961 sec 498 A 
  • Pre – Conception and Pre – Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of sex selection Act – 1994 etc. 
  • The Criminal law amendment act 2014 
The resource persons also explained laws related to women’s Property rights, Marriage and personal laws, divorce and provision under laws, maintenance, domestic violence, inheritance law, Hindu Marriage Act, etc. The participants were very active and asked many questions on domestic and family related matter and sought legal remedy from the resource person. Mrs Vrushali Unhale (DBDS - Staff) and Mrs Vibhawari Kamble (DBDS - Staff) organized the women for these workshops.
