226 ANTI-TOBACCO CAMPAIGN IN SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS

29-Jan-2018, Chinchwad(Pune): The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), Chinchwad organized an awareness and interactive workshop on ‘Harmful Effects Of Tobacco and Gutkha Chewing’ for the students in the Mata Ramabai Ambedkar School at Ajanth Nagar in Chinchwad. 96 students participated in this event held under the aegis of ‘Health Risk Reduction’ project supported by AXA Business Services Ltd.

The programme started with the introduction of the resource person and staff by Ms. Lalita Chaudhari (Coordinator- DBDS). Dr. Ganesh Ambike (Health Professional from Morya Pratishan) was the resource person for this workshop. The objective of this workshop was to educate children on the risky habit of consuming tobacco products and harmful effects to such habits.

Dr. Ambike covered various topics on composition of tobacco, forms of tobacco, harmful effects on body and mind, oral cancer, lung cancer and many more health problems associated with it. Students asked many questions which were answered by the resource person. Mrs Vibhawari Kamble (DBDS - staff) made the logistical arrangement and liaison for this workshop with the school authorities.
