267 BMC SPONSORED SPICE MAKING TRAINING

Mumbai, 28-March-2018: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) organized a 40-days training on ‘ Spice Making Business’ for the women from the Dharavi slums in Mumbai. 30 women participated in this training held in collaboration with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

On the concluding day a fare well gathering was held on 28-Mar-2018. Fr Rolvin D’Mello (Executive Director - DBDS) addressed the women and motivated them to start their own business. He also thanked Mr Rajesh Khandare (Trustee - Ganesh Vidhyamandir School, Dharavi) for providing the venue for the 40 days. Ms. Surekha Pednekar (Project Officer - DBDS) highlighted the importance of the training and also explained how well the training was received and appreciated by women. As a gesture of appreciation, all the guests were gifted a Tulsi sapling by the participants.

During these 40 days the participants were trained to make thirty different types of spices. At the end of the training, the last five days were earmarked for creating awareness and imparting knowledge on “Micro Business Entrepreneurship”.

Mr. Pradeep Walavalkar, Mr. Royal D’Souza and Mr. Dilip Samant were the resource persons for this training. They covered many business related topics in their lecture such as nature of business, building relationship with customers, marketing of products, product quality, branding, standards, costing, market survey, business record maintenance, business proposal, customer care etc. There was an interactive session at the end of every day during the training period.

On the day of farewell a cooking competition was held at the same venue in which participants prepared food items using the spices, which they had learnt in the training. Three best items were selected by the judges. Mrs. Kavita Kamble (DBDS – Staff) along with the SHG women had made the logistical arrangement for this event and also proposed the vote of thanks at the end.
