24-April-2018, Chinchwad (Pune): The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) Chinchwad, organized a street play titled ‘Tambaku ki Aadat, Cancer ko Daavat’ in the Indira Nagar slum. This street play was held under the aegis of ‘Health Risk Reduction Project’ supported by AXA Business Services.

Indira Nagar slum has a substantial population addicted to one or other form of tobacco. The aim of this street play was to create awareness on the health risks associated with tobacco consumptions and its effect on person and family. It highlighted the fact that easy availability of tobacco products and encouragement from peers, family etc, makes young people addicted to smoking and chewing tobacco.

The street play portrayed the ordeal which the family members undergoes whose head is a drunkard. How the family suffers as children don’t get good education, food and dignified living and the family falls into the debt trap and eventually the person suffers from liver damage and loses life. The street play was followed by a group discussion in which people from the locality participated and they all condemned the habit of consuming tobacco.
