3-May-2018, Mumbai:
The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), organized a free health check-up camp for the women and children residing in Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar slum in Ghatkopar (East). 164 women, children and youth were examined by the doctors in this camp held under the aegis of ‘MGL Disha Project’ supported by MAHANAGAR GAS LTD.

This camp was held in association with Larsen & Toubro Ltd from Andheri. Dr. Dinesh Badani, Dr. Smita Trivedi along with 1 Nurse and 2 Medical Social workers examined the patients during this health camp. The purpose of this health camp was to identify anaemic children and women in the slum. Mrs. Surekha Pednekar (Project Officer - DBDS) welcomed the medical staff.

Patients were screened for anaemia using a symptoms questionnaire. 10 volunteers from the local slum also participated in the health camp. The volunteers were extremely helpful as they helped in arranging facilities, visiting slums and informing people about the health camp and managing the crowd. Most of the girls who were examined were suffering from iron and vitamin deficiency leading to anaemia. The doctors distributed iron and vitamin tablets to such girls. The doctors suggested to hold 2 more health camps in this area.

Giving her feedback, one of the beneficiary of the health camp- Mrs Dimple Mehta said, “We are very grateful to Don Bosco for holding this health camp, it has benefited many people in this area which is devoid of government health services.” Mrs. Zarina Khan (Staff – DBDS) made the logistical arrangement for this health camp, she also proposed the vote of thanks at the end.
