292 ROAD SAFETY AND TRAFFIC RULES AWARENESS FOR SLUM CHILDREN

7-May-2018, Chinchwad (Pune): The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), Chinchwad organized an interactive session on ‘Road Safety and Traffic Rules’ for the children in Ram Nagar slum. 28 Children participated in this event which was held under the aegis of ‘Health Risk Reduction’ project supported by AXA Business Services Ltd.

Mrs. Nirija Deshpande (Police Mitra) was the resource person for this session. In her interactive session, she covered important topics related to road safety and also explained various traffic symbols used in day to day life. She laid special emphasises on following points:

· Cause of traffic problem
· Role of citizens, traffic behaviour
· Speed limits, use of helmet
· Drinking and driving
· Honking, headlight and use of dipper
· Traffic signals, waiting time
· Zebra crossing, speed breakers
· Emergency medical services, etc.

In the second part, she educated children on helping victims of road accidents. In case of accidents she told them to call police by dialling numbers: 100 & 103. After the session snacks were served to all the children and Mrs. Rajshree Deshkhire (Staff- DBDS) proposed the vote of thanks at the end of program.
