31-May-2018, Chinchwad (Pune): The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), Chinchwad organized a street play and poster exhibition on the theme of ‘harmful effects of tobacco consumption’ for the people in the premises of Chinchwad railway station. This event was held on the occasion of ‘World No Tobacco Day’ and was held under the aegis of ‘Health Risk Reduction Project’ supported by AXA Business Services.

The programme started at 8 am in the morning with the display of posters in the form of an exhibition to educate commuters and other public on the health risks associated with consuming tobacco. The posters contained information in local Marathi language for better understanding of the messages. The poster contained visual material and written information on the harmful effects on personal health, family and society. Lot of visitors they stopped to see, read and understand the posters. The social workers explained the information to the visitors. It was encouraging to note that lot of youngsters were attracted to this exhibition.

In after noon, a street play was enacted at the same place with the title- ‘Beware, tobacco is a slow poison.’ The aim of this street play was to create awareness on the health risks associated with tobacco consumption and its effect on person and family. It highlighted a case of smoker who was addicted to cigarette smoking and how this habit affected his health and family. How his family suffered as children didn’t had good education, food and dignified living and the family falls into the debt trap and eventually the person suffers from lungs damage and loses life. Cigarette smoking harms nearly every organ of the body, causes many diseases, and damages the health of smokers. Quitting smoking lowers risk for smoking-related diseases. The programme ended post afternoon.
