2-June-2018, Chinchwad (Pune): The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) organized a ‘Legal Awareness Session’ for the women residing in the slum of Vidya Nagar in Chinchwad. 38 women participated in the workshop held under the aegis of ‘Health Risk Reduction’ project supported by AXA Business Services, Pune.

The objective of the workshop was to educate women on rights, entitlements and remedy available for their legal problems. Advocate Pretti Sathe was the resource person for this session. In her session Advocate Preeti covered important clauses related to following acts:

· Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act – 2005
· Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act – 1956
· Dowry Prohibition Act -1961 sec 498 A
· Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques
  (Prohibition of sex selection Act 1994), etc.
· The Criminal law amendment act 2014

In the session she explained women’s Property rights, Marriage and personal laws, divorce and provision under law, maintenance, domestic violence, inheritance law, Hindu Marriage Act, etc. She also encouraged women to speak-up their problems and act collectively. She than discussed some cases and shared how to help such a victim. Participants also actively discussed their problems and were guided accordingly by the resource person. After the session snacks were served to all and Ms. Lalita Chaudhari (Co-ordinator-DBDS) proposed the vote of thanks.
