367 ANTI-TOBACCO CAMPAIGN: Health Awareness Session for Slum Youth

Chinchwad (Pune), 22-August-2018: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), Chinchwad organized an awareness and interactive session on ‘Harmful Effects of Tobacco and Gutkha Chewing’ for the youth at Ajantha Nagar slum in Chinchwad under the aegis of ‘Health Risk Reduction’ project supported by AXA Business Services Ltd. 29 people in the age group of 15-45 years participated in this workshop.

The programme started with the introduction of the resource person and staff by Mr. Arjun Sharnagate (DBDS- staff). Dr. Prasad Kate from Sai Prasad Clinic was the resource person for this workshop. The objective of this workshop was to educate youth on the risky habit of consuming tobacco products and harmful effects to such habits.

Dr. Kate covered various topics on composition of tobacco, forms of tobacco, harmful effects on body and mind, oral cancer, lung cancer, habit forming substances and many more health problems associated with it. The participants asked many questions which were answered by the resource person. Mrs. Vibhawari Kamble (DBDS -Staff) and Mr. Arjun did the logistical arrangement for this session and organized youth to participate in this session. Ms. Lalita Chaudhari (DBDS- Coordinator) proposed the vote of thanks at the end of program. After the session snacks were served to all.
