376 MGL DISHA PROJECT: Financial Literacy for Slum Women

Mumbai, 28-August-2018: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), Mumbai organized a ‘Financial Literacy’ workshop for women from low income group residing in the slum of 90 feet road in Sakinaka. 40 women participated in this workshop which was organized under the aegis of ‘MGL Disha Project’ supported by Mahanagar Gas Limited. 

The objective of this workshop was to create awareness and impart skills to women on savings and investments. Ms. Surekha Pednekar (Project Officer-DBDS) was the resource person for this workshop. In her session she laid emphasis on the need to have disciplined savings, later she spoke about financial scams like Speak Asia Online, Royal Twinkle Star Club Ltd, Pearl, Pancard, Stock guru India etc. She gave various examples how inflation reduce the purchasing power of money. She then explained about various post office saving schemes, PPF, Insurance schemes, Pension plans, Sukanya Samruddhi Yojna etc. After the workshop snacks were served to all and Mrs. Zarina Khan (Staff-DBDS) gave vote of thanks.
