426 LEGAL AWARENESS FOR SLUM WOMEN IN INDIRA NAGAR

12-November-2018, Chinchwad (Pune): The Don Bosco Development Society organized a ‘legal awareness session’ for the women and girls residing in Indira Nagar slum in Pune. 28 women participated in the workshop which was part of ‘Health Risk reduction project’ supported by AXA Business Service.

The objective of the workshop was to create legal awareness among women about their rights and entitlements. Advocate Preeti Sathe was the resource person for this workshop. In this session she covered important laws in following acts:

• Protection of Women’s from Domestic Violence Act – 2005
• Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act – 1956
• Dowry Prohibition Act – 1961 sec 498 A
• Pre – Conception and Pre – Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of sex selection Act – 1994 etc.
• The Criminal law amendment act 2014

In her session advocate Preeti explained women’s property rights, marriage and personal laws, divorce and their provision under law, maintenance, domestic violence, inheritance law, Hindu marriage Act, etc. She also encouraged women to speak-up their problems and act collectively. She than discussed some cases and guided participants on how they can help victims of domestic violence. After the session snacks were served to all. Mrs. Sarika Kadam (DBDS- Staff) proposed the vote of thanks at the end of session.
