504 ORGANIC FARMING TRAINING FOR TRIBAL FARMERS

Chhota Udepur (Gujarat), February-2019: The Lok Seva Kendra (LSK), Chhota Udepur organized a series of trainings and exposure visits for the tribal farmers from more than 40 villages. 120 farmers participated in these training workshops and exposure visits. These programmes were organized under the ‘Sustainable Organic Farming Project’ supported by KräuterMix, Germany.

Dr. Mahesh Patel from Anand Agriculture University and Mr. Kausik Patel from Shroff Foundation were the resource persons. In the training they educated farmers on following:

· Harmful effect of Chemical fertilizers, Chemical Pesticides, impact on environment, soil, water bodies, ground water, increased cost of farming, decreasing productivity and farm yield.
· Concept of sustainable organic farming: agricultural production systems, vermicomposting, soil testing, ecological biodiversity, biological pest control, crop rotation, livestock management practices etc.

After the training, 5 days’ exposure visit was held to demo farms and agricultural extension services at Anand Agriculture University. Entire staff of LSK participated in this programme.
