512 INCOME GENERATION TRAINING FOR DHARAVI SLUM WOMEN

15-Feb-2019, Mumbai: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), Mumbai organized a one-day training workshop on ‘production of domestic cleaning products’ for 20 women from Shankar Kavade Nagar slum in Dharavi. This training programme was held under the aegis of project supported by Dr. Hannes Spieth.

Fr Rolvin D’Mello (Executive Director – DBDS) personally visited the training programme with the Dr. Hannes Spieth (who had sponsored the entire training program and also the start-up kits for all the participants). Ms. Surekha Pednekar (Project Officer - DBDS) welcomed the guests, resource person and the participants and explained the objectives of the training.

Mrs. Ashwini Kharatmol was the resource persons for this workshop. During the training, the participants learnt to make seven different kinds of ‘domestic cleaning products’. These products included Phenyl, Detergent, Hi-tech powder, Hand wash, Dish wash, Floor Cleaner, Toilet Cleaner. Apart from teaching the production process, the resource person also taught marketing, costing, budgeting, pricing and branding of product. The participants dedicatedly learnt the skills and also discussed on starting a small business.

Dr. Spieth told all the participants that it was a great joy for him and his friend to witness this program and he wished all the very best for their bright future. After the programme, all the participants were also given start-up kits so that they start production after this training program. Ms. Kavita Kamble (DBDS – Staff) mobilized women to attend the training programme. She also proposed the vote of thanks.
