570 ANTI-TOBACCO CAMPAIGN: Health Awareness Rally

Mumbai, 13-April-2019: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), Mumbai organized an awareness session and a rally on ‘Harmful Effects of Tobacco and Gutkha chewing’ for the residents of Ashok nagar slum. 57 children participated in this rally held under the aegis of ‘MGL Disha Project’ supported by Mahanagar Gas Ltd.

Before the rally, Mr. Sunil Chawan spoke to children on the risky habit of consuming tobacco products and harmful effects to such habits. Mr. Sunil covered various topics such as composition of tobacco, forms of tobacco, substance abuse in adolescent, adolescent health problems in India, effect on liver, kidney, harmful effects on body and mind, oral cancer, lung cancer and many more health problems associated with it.

After the session children held a rally. In the rally, children carried placards with slogans to stop consuming tobacco, harmful effects of tobacco, Cancer awareness, and effects of chewing Gutkha etc. Children were very excited to participate in the rally and communicated their message to residents and commuters on the way. Ms.Zarina khan (Staff - DBDS) made the logistical arrangement and coordinated for this session with the resource person.
