581 HEALTH RISK AWARENESS FOR SLUM WOMEN

Chinchwad (Pune), 18-April-2019: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), Chinchwad organized a health awareness session for the Self-Help Group women residing in Vidya Nagar slum. More than 25 women participated in the session held under the aegis of ‘Health Risk Reduction Project’ supported AXA Business Services.

The objective of this session was to educate women on the risky habit of consuming tobacco products and harmful effects of such habits. Ms. Lalita Chaudhari & Sarika Kadam (both DBDS - staff) were the resource person for this session.
In the first part, Ms. Lalita educated women on the physical and mental health and its relationship to sanitation. This session also educated them on reproductive and child health. Then she informed women on the harmful effects of tobacco and cause of Cancer and covered various topics such as composition of tobacco, forms of tobacco, harmful effects on body and mind, oral cancer, lung cancer and many more health problems associated with such habits. Mrs. Sarika focused on healthy nutrition, habits and hygienic environment for women.

Mrs. Rajshree Deshkhire (staff- DBDS) did the logistical arrangement for this session and organized women to participate in this session. After the session snacks were served to everyone.
