624 ANTI-TOBACCO CAMPAIGN: Rally and Street Play in Mumbai Slums

Mumbai, 31-May-2019: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), Mumbai organized a rally and a street play on the occasion of World ‘Anti-Tobacco Day’ in the slums of Ghatkopar west. The basic theme running through all these events was ‘Smoking is injurious to health’ (do it and you will die). These events were held under the aegis of ‘MGL Disha Project’ supported by Mahanagar Gas Limited. 

The objective of these events was to educate people on the harmful effects of tobacco and to help people abstain from consuming tobacco. More than 200 children, men & women from the slums; along with the staff, teachers and volunteers participated in the rally which marched all over the slum shouting slogans, carrying placards and speaking to people of tobacco effects to grab the attention of the people living in the slums.

The participants generated awareness among the people on the problem of consuming tobacco and the negative effects it has on the body and health. The rally started at Taddev market area and ended in home guard gate. The rally took place in the market area to reach out to maximum people. At the end of the rally a street play was presented by the group called ‘Bal Adhikar Sangharsh Sangahtan’ – proclaiming the similar message.
