668 FREE Eye Check-Up and Cataract Surgery for People in the Slums of Pune

Koregaon Park (Pune), 15-July-2019: The Don Bosco Development Society, Pune organized a free eye check-up camp for the residents of Suraksha Nagar slum. 142 patients were examined in this eye camp held under the aegis of ‘Women Empowerment Project’ supported by Manos Unidas, Spain.

Eye camp started at 10.00 am and concluded at about 3.00pm. Dr Ranaware and Dr. Amol from Bharati Hospital examined the patients. 13 patients were diagnosed with Cataract. 16 patients with defective eyesight were distributed spectacles at a nominal charge of Rs.100 only.

The 13 patients with Cataract were admitted in Bharati Hospital on 11th July 2019. On preliminary medical examination 6 patients had high blood pressure and high anxiety. Their surgery was postponed and 8 patients underwent Cataract surgery and were discharged on 15th July 2019. Fr. Richard (Administrator-Don Bosco Koregaon Park) met all the 8 patients who underwent successful surgery and prayed for their good health. The DBDS staff did the mobilization as well as the logistical arrangements for this camp.
