701 ANTI-TOBACCO CAMPAIGN: Street Play and Health Exhibition in Ajanta Nagar Slum

Chinchwad (Pune), 24-July-2019: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) Chinchwad, organized a street play titled ‘Tambaku ki Aadat, Cancer ko Daavat’ in the Ajanta Nagar slum. This street play along with health exhibition was held under the aegis of ‘Health Risk Reduction Project’ supported by AXA Business Services.

The aim of this street play and Health exhibition was to create awareness on the health risks associated with tobacco consumptions and its effect on person and family. It highlighted the fact that easy availability of tobacco products and encouragement from peers and family makes young people addicted to smoking and chewing tobacco.

The program started at 9 am in the morning with the display of posters in the form of an exhibition to educate commuters and other public on the health risks associated with consuming tobacco. The poster contained visual material and written information on the harmful effects to personal health, family and society. 82 visitors stopped to see, read and understand the posters.

The social workers explained the information to the visitors. The street play portrayed the ordeal which the family members undergoes whose head is a smoker. How the family suffers due to his smoking habit and falls into the debt trap and eventually the person suffers from lungs damage and loses life. It beautifully captured the harmful effects to tobacco consumption.
