801 INCOME GENERATION TRAINING FOR SLUM WOMEN

Mumbai, 4-Oct-2019: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), Mumbai organized a workshop on the art of manufacturing ‘Fancy Candles’ for the Self-Help Groups (SHGs) women from Dharavi slum on 3rd and 4th October. 39 women SHG members completed the training programme held under the aegis of supported by Auxilium India Association (Seregno - Italy); special thanks to: Erio, Francesco and Daniella.

Ms. Surekha Pednekar (Project Officer-DBDS) welcomed the resource persons, Mrs. Anita Gujar and Selvi Mahimai. The objective of this training was to impart skill and knowledge on Fancy Candle making as micro business for supplementary income of the families connected to this project. The participants learnt to make Fancy Candle at a very low cost. They were also taught in detail about marketing, costing, budget, pricing and promoting their product. The participants dedicatedly learnt the skills and were determined to start a small business. Raw material was also distributed to participants to help them in starting their business.

“I am grateful to Don Bosco for this training and hopefully with this skill I will be able to generate some income for my family,” said Mrs. Geeta Sonavane of Rudra SHG. Mrs. Kavita Kamble (Staff-DBDS) along with the volunteer organized this event. The program ended with the vote of thanks by Mrs. Kavita Kamble.
