824 Manos Unidas Delegates Visit Project in Pune

Koregaon Park (Pune), 19-Oct-2019: Two Senior Delegates from Manos Unidas, Spain visited the ‘Women Empowerment and Education Project’ being implemented in slums of Pune by Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS). On this occasion an ‘Income Generation Training’ and a ‘SHG meeting’ was organized in Yerwada.

The delegates were given a traditional welcome by the local community; Kumkum and a Garland was given as a mark of respect towards the support given by the Manos Unidas. Fr Rolvin D’Mello (Executive Director - DBDS) gave a welcome speech and thanked Manos Unidas for its whole hearted support towards the cause. The delegates expressed their happiness over the feedback given by the participating women and interacted with the women on project’s benefit and their achievements.

They gave an overview of the Manos Unidas organization and expressed their solidarity with the women in India. Ms Nilima Chandare (Trainer-DBDS) conducted a session on Redwine soap, Neem Soap and Herbal facewash making. 21 women participated in this training.

After that they participated in a SHG meeting in Mother Teresa Nagar in Yerwada. The delegates interacted with the SHG women who were very shy to talk to delegates. The beneficiaries were very keen on taking a ‘selfie’ with them. After that the delegates inspected the project records, monthly reports, monitoring reports and also interacted with project staff. Full staff consisting of Mr Mahesh Kumar, Mr Nagsen Chavan (Co-ordinator), Ms. Jyoti Sonawane (Sr Social Worker), Ms Nilima Chandare (Trainer) Mrs. Priya Sonawane (Jr Social Worker), and Mrs. Leena Gaikwad (Jr Social Worker) and three-part time teachers were present during this event.
