Ms. Gudiya Shah resides with her family at Khadi No. 3 slum at Kurla in Mumbai. Her Family consists of her parents, 5 sisters and 1 brother. Due to financial problem she couldn’t study beyond 8th Std and decided to work to help her parents in meeting the family needs. With no qualification and experience it was difficult for her to get a job. She almost remained jobless for about a year when she met Zarina Khan (Social Worker-DBDS).

Ms. Zarina informed her about the job oriented certificate course in Beautician. Soon she enrolled herself for this course and underwent for 2 month training from December 2015 to January 2016. She also underwent Entrepreneurship training with DBDS. These trainings helped her in learning beautician skills and business development skills. After that she physically surveyed the nearby area to understand the feasibility of setting up a Beauty Parlour in that area. Initially she started as assistant and worked in beauty parlours in her area.

On 15-December- 2018 she formally inaugurated her own parlour in partnership with other beautician student of DBDS. She provides services like facial, clean-up, waxing, Mehandi, Haircut, Pedicure etc. She is able to earn up to Rs 8000 per month on an average. The inauguration of the beauty parlour was done by Fr. Rolvin D’Mello (Executive Director-DBDS). At the inauguration ceremony Ms Gudiya spoke about her association with DBDS and her future plans. Thanking DBDS she said, “I am very grateful to Don Bosco, not merely for giving me an occupation in life but also for what I am today.”
